Meet our Board Members

Tradeworks Training Society is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors whose collective range of experience and expertise help guide our organization to achieve its ultimate goal of providing a safe and supportive learning and work environment to women and other community members in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside region. Our Board brings direction to the organization by focusing on governance, financial planning, policy development and community involvement.

Bill Cafferata | Director

Bill has been working in industrial forestry for most of his career. Practising forestry on an industrial scale requires a full array of educational and practical skills. Bill is highly skilled and knowledgeable in the logging and forest industry and, and brings his expertise in woodworking to the Board of Tradeworks. Tradeworks offers people who face barriers with a genuine opportunity to improve their lives through trades training. Helping people realize their full potential and find meaningful work is why Bill has been contributing to Tradeworks over the past year.    

Brian L. Johnston, M.Sc. | Director

Brian has operated a consulting practice in the field of public recreation for over forty years.  In this capacity he has worked in most communities in Western and Northern Canada planning parks, recreation services and facilities.  He came to Tradeworks via the 2010 Vancouver Olympics where he was a volunteer in charge of developing a Legacy Plan for the RONA 2010 Fab Shop. Today, RONA continues its sponsorship with Tradeworks. Brian joined the Board of Tradeworks in late 2010 and brings his expertise in public policy, strategic planning and community development to the table.

Clare Waters | Director

Clare Waters is an Executive Director, Strategy and Decision Support at the University of British Columbia, one of North America’s largest public research and teaching institutions. She has extensive Canadian and international experience as a business leader and as a consultant, in the corporate and public sectors.  Clare joined the Tradeworks Board in 2010, driven particularly by the Tradeworks model of developing individual’s through carpentry skills training and personal growth, rather than focusing on their barriers.  

Neil Hamilton | Director

Neil moved to Vancouver from Toronto many years ago and has been an active member in his community since his arrival by forming and leading many successful business groups.  Neil currently works as a Senior Property Advisor at Macdonald with expertise in the buying, selling and leasing of both residential and commercial properties throughout the Greater Vancouver Area. He brings to Tradeworks his expert advice on business strategy, leasing and property management to help keep Tradeworks operating at its best.
