John was having a difficult time paying his bills while studying to become a digital graphic artist. His Case Manager suggested that he enrol in a trades training program and that changed his life in more ways than he expected.
Katherine took the leap from nursing to a career in the trades. At first she was overwhelmed by the new tools, but the Women in the Trades program provided her with a supportive environment to learn her new trade in carpentry. Now, she has a rewarding career and a schedule that allows her to spend more time with her son.
Ceres is a single mother who emigrated from Central America to Canada looking for a better life. A language barrier and lack of Canadian work experience made it difficult to find work. Thanks to the women’s carpentry program, she not only completed her certificate in the trades, she also found a job she loved.
Carolyn left her partner of 23 years and eventually found herself alone, unemployed and standing in a food bank lineup in Vancouver. By chance, she heard about the Tradeworks carpentry program and that changed her outlook on life. Upon graduation, she launched Tradeworks Custom Products with a few other women in the program.
