The City of Vancouver donated 800 pairs of Vancouver 2010 street banners to Tradeworks Training Society to help in fundraising for The Fab Shop legacy project, a carpentry training program for at-risk youth, initially launched as a sustainable social initiative created by the 2010 Winter Games. On July 29th, 2010, The Fab Shop held a banner signing event in which John Furlong, VANOC CEO and three Olympian athletes – Kristi Richards, Tom Velisek and Justin Lamoureux, came to sign banners that will be sold online in support of this legacy project. RONA 2010 Fab Shop Ad
This RONA advertisement features students from a Tradeworks program that connected Vancouver’s inner city youth with employment training and life-skills. In the RONA 2010 Olympic Fabrication Shop, students gained work experience and earned their Level One Carpentry Apprenticeship by building products that will be used during the coming Winter Olympics Games.

Carrying the torch for a real legacy
Tradeworks Training Society honoured for commitments to inner-city inclusivity
Tradeworks Training Society’s Executive Director, Ross Gentleman, has been invited to carry the torch in the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay to Vancouver. The invitation largely comes because of the work that Tradeworks has done to pursue the innercity inclusivity commitments of the 2010 Games.
“I am honoured to be able to carry the Olympic torch on behalf of Tradeworks Training Society,” says Ross Gentleman, Tradeworks Executive Director. “Tradeworks Training Society wants the 2010 Games to leave a real legacy for the people in Vancouver’s inner-city and believes this event can bring positive changes in the Downtown Eastside community.” (more…)
